Every Change Has A Beginning

Week 1

My first post and step towards my own Happiness Project. Like they always say, the first step in fixing a problem is admitting you have one. So here I sit, admitting.
I've never been a particularly unhappy person, however I will admit I've had a disposition that could sometimes be seen as cynical. In life it isn't always easy to keep your chin up and give the world a big ole grin. Sometimes you want to tell life to shove it where the sun don't shine. But thankfully, I've reached a point where I've learned that life happens, and you must find a way to deal in your own way. This blog is an attempt to organize my thoughts on what makes me happy while providing some sort of structure for the project.

Five Splendid Truths via David Richo
1. Everything changes and ends
2. Things do not always go according to plan
3. Life is not always fair
4. Pain is a part of life
5. People are not loving and loyal all the time

My senior year of college my family hit a few large bumps in the road and unfortunately greatly affected my mood and my happiness. During this period of time I began meeting with a counselor to discuss the way these negative events had affected my life. After a few sessions she recommended David Richo's book to read. Like most college students, I never got around to the book. However, when I read these I began to see that these truths address all of the things that kept me anxious and in a constant state of worry and panic. Once I was able to address the fears, I was able to let go of the worry because I simply had to surrender to the powerlessness of it. And that is the story of the acquired and non-original splendid truths.
