Little Reminders

Now, the less intense and more fun resolutions
  1. Actually cook the foods I pin. Less gawking, more cooking.
  2. Read more books, and watch less TV. Try and read 3-4 books a month
  3. Take my vitamins everyday
  4. Try new and different beauty regimens
  5. Take more hikes and spend more time excercising outside
  6. Take time to write
  7. Read quotes from great men and women
  8. Take more pictures

Hopefully more to come. I don't hope to accomplish all of my resolutions on a specific time schedule. Rather, I want these to serve as a guide for things I'd like to do more of in this upcoming year.

And with a new year, comes...

My Resolutions

Body

Eat more veggies

Get at least 7 hours of sleep at night

Go to the gym 4 to 5 times a week

Let sweets truly be a treat

Drink more tea, and less coffee

Drink more water

Mind

Take time each day to quiet your mind: 10 minutes before or after bed to reflect

Breathe, and count to three when you find yourself negatively reacting

Take time to admire the natural beauty of the world and take a photo when it moves you

Be happy when others are happy - quiet your opinions and listen

Spend more time listening to music; spend less time watching television

Take a yoga class as often as possible

Make others look good; point out what makes them uniquely them. It will fill you with happiness knowing they know how much you notice and care

Friends

Call your friends; and call them back. Stay active in their lives.

Visit your friends. Once a month plan a trip to see at least one friend

Be supportive. You don’t always need to share your opinion, especially when it isn't asked for

Remember birthdays

Be thoughtful – write letters, send a nice text, simply ask how their days are going

Family

Watch one movie a week with my parents

Empty and load the dishwasher more for Mom

Don’t snap; breathe and count to three

Call Chris and Drew more often; call Chris once a week

Be thoughtful, send letters every so often. Let them know how much you care about them

Organization

Put money in savings every paycheck. 100 to 200. Or whatever you can manage

Be diligent about applying to jobs

Do the work that needs to be done at work. Don’t put it off.

Clean up your room before you go to bed every night

Keep closet and drawers organized and clean

Stay active on my blog. This space is for me to share and clear my head

Overall, I want 2013 to be a year in which I try to better myself and the environment I make for myself. I want everyone in my life to know how much I care. Spend time trying to be better than you were the day before. Work on making all of your future plans come true.

These are the hopes for my happiness project!

Every Change Has A Beginning

Week 1

My first post and step towards my own Happiness Project. Like they always say, the first step in fixing a problem is admitting you have one. So here I sit, admitting.
I've never been a particularly unhappy person, however I will admit I've had a disposition that could sometimes be seen as cynical. In life it isn't always easy to keep your chin up and give the world a big ole grin. Sometimes you want to tell life to shove it where the sun don't shine. But thankfully, I've reached a point where I've learned that life happens, and you must find a way to deal in your own way. This blog is an attempt to organize my thoughts on what makes me happy while providing some sort of structure for the project.

Five Splendid Truths via David Richo
1. Everything changes and ends
2. Things do not always go according to plan
3. Life is not always fair
4. Pain is a part of life
5. People are not loving and loyal all the time

My senior year of college my family hit a few large bumps in the road and unfortunately greatly affected my mood and my happiness. During this period of time I began meeting with a counselor to discuss the way these negative events had affected my life. After a few sessions she recommended David Richo's book to read. Like most college students, I never got around to the book. However, when I read these I began to see that these truths address all of the things that kept me anxious and in a constant state of worry and panic. Once I was able to address the fears, I was able to let go of the worry because I simply had to surrender to the powerlessness of it. And that is the story of the acquired and non-original splendid truths.

Commandments

4. Do what ought to be done
5. Be generous
6. Be Patient

8. Always choose love
9. Be vulnerable
10. Be present

Resolutions come next.
